11 Years without Aaliyah

Aaliyah Dana Haughton is a legend. I've heard people remark that her sound and style were "way ahead of her time," but I still haven't heard any artists that even compare. She was simply original... Her boyish sense of fashion, humble-personality, and hypnotizing voice... I can only imagine the music she would still be making today.

I've been wanting to make an Aaliyah tribute top for awhile, but I didn't want to do the hood thing with the airbrush font or mug-shot screen print haha. Finally, I decided on the "Aaliyah logo." If you're a true fan, you'd recognize the album cover and "A."

Word on the street is producers will be dropping a compilation of unreleased Aaliyah songs. Although there is no official confirmation that this is true, it isn't too hard to believe... Have yall heard Drake's new song, "Enough Said ft. Aaliyah" ? I'll be waiting.

Faves from Carol's Daughter

I began using Carol's Daughter products about 5-6months ago, and am in love! My curiosity first peaked when Carol's Daughter product suggestions and reviews kept popping up in my favorite magazine (Allure, Cosmopolitan, Glamour). Celebrities such as Cassie, Kim Kardashian & Jayda Pinkett-Smith are all avid Carol's Daughter users... And I figured, if it is good enough for them, it is good enough for me!

Among all the CD products I have tried, these three are my favorite:
1. Macadamia Heat Setting Foam $18
2. Macadamia Finishing Shine Mist $18
3. Monoi Repairing Hair Mask $29

All these hair products smell delicious, especially the Macadamia line. The Macadamia Heat Setting Foam is a great heat protectant and texturizer. It really makes my hair appear/feel thicker! The finishing shine mist can also be used as a heat protectant, and adds a nice glossy sheen to hair to look healthy. I caution you, a little goes a long way! The best way to apply the shine mist is to spritz on hands and rubs throughout hair, or you can end up looking oily.

The Monoi Repairing Hair Mask is amazing. I first bought this after reading an interview with Kim Kardashian; she swore by this hair mask and it does not disappoint! I use it once, every other week, and leave it in my damp hair for up to 20min at a time. The directions suggest 5-7min, but I believe the mask really penetrates and helps heal hair the longer you let it "marinate."

How cute is my new cherry blossom straightener! Although this straightener is by Le Angelique, not Carol's Daughter, I had to include it in this post! Before I bought this, I had used a straightener by HerStyler for about 5 years... Until it finally broke. I've seen LA straighteners in the mall and online, but they usually retail for $100+. This is exact model is sold for $129.99 at I bought mine at TJ Maxx for $29.99! Holla fo' one-hunnid dolla!

DIY: Glitter Soles

So, I ordered a new pair of nude pumps from MMC... But instead received a pair of, what seem to be, knock-off Daffodil Louboutins. I opened the box and literally let out a, "WTF?" But instead of letting a pair of shoes go to waste, I got crafty and recolored the soles!

All you need is original formula Modge Podge & fine grain glitter.
I chose hot pink!

I mixed together about 2tbsp of Modge Podge & 1tbsp of glitter and applied it using a sponge-tip brush. I coated the heel soles with 3 layers of the glitter mixture, with 15min drying time between each layer.

TA DA! I love the results! Way better than some bogus looking replicas. Note, I didn't bother to glitterize the direct bottom of the sole... Seemed a little pointless since it would wear off anyway!

This was a super easy DIY project!
I found all my craft supplies at JoAnn's, and spent less than $8.
Now looking for more things to glitterize...

Gel Manicure Review

Just got a fresh manicure for my birthday! I have been getting gel manicures for almost a year now. There are several gel polish brands available, but the salon I go to uses the OPI Axxium Gel. Prices  depends on the salon, but a gel manicure usually runs about $25.

(OPI Axxium Polish in "Alpine Snow" & "Bring on the Bling." Regular black polish for design)

Claims to last 2-3 weeks (I have had mine last up to 5, although my nails grew out of course)
Does not chip off like regular polish
Applied over natural nail bed
No drilling, only buffing
Soaks off in 10min using regular acetone
ASK for the gel overlay, this is a protective coat that really works

If you like to frequently change your nail polish color, this is not for you
Can damage nails if you attempt to PEEL off yourself
If applied too thickly, it will peel off on its own (I suggest requesting an experienced technician)

French Manicure Kit by Orly

I picked this kit up at Sally's Beauty Supply for about $11, and the Stripe-Rite polish for $4... I like the extra bling on my toes!

There were two Orly French Manicure kits, Pink & Rose. I purchased the "rose kit" because I wanted the closest spa-look possible! Everything was super easy to use, and french tip guide stickers were even included (however, I used/prefer the white paint & acetone method). I highly suggest this kit, it beats paying $25+ for a pedicure and/or color-change every other week! Yay for pretty toes!
